Don’t You Just Dislike That?

I have succumbed to the quite forceful (thanks, dscr?be) and gentle (what a voice Abbie has) prodding to update (having just discovered from the link that they may be one and the same) and when deciding what to write, I discovered something about myself today – my posts are always symptomatic of my moods. I have 3 or 4 posts swirling around my head (with apologies to ‘in my head and around me…’) at any given time, however, some just do not sit right with me to publish, depending on my mood, no prizes for guessing what my mood is at the end of this post. For you guys who see shrinks, I think I just qualified (as a shrink, that is), so let’s negotiate.

Those who read my previous posts about ‘irritating habits’ and ‘revolting habits’ know that there are some things that just, well… irritate me. I don’t think I’m pernickety, I certainly hope not, but some things just do a rumba on my nerves, especially when they’re oft repeated.

Here goes:

1. Women who violently pat their scalps in order to salve the itch caused by their weaves or attachments. You see them everywhere; in shops, while they're driving, walking down the street, all over the place. They also always appear to be of African extraction (someone please correct me if I’m wrong). Why, friends, why? If it itches that much, it means you have dandruff or fleas or ticks or something. Why not simply take off the weave and shampoo the hair, or don’t wear it, you’ll give yourself a brain haemorrhage. Am I being simple?

2. Long posts, some of which are made less attractive by being published in 8 point font size. Come on, one gratification from our posts is when others read them, so how do you think one would feel after spending 30 minutes and aching eyes reading one?

3. Music on blogs – I listen to an eclectic collection (remember the iTunes tag?) and would not impose my taste on anyone, besides, listening to music puts me off reading and I get tired of stretching to turn down my speakers each time. I must confess, though, that I heard Gongo Aso for the first time on Sha’s blog, even then, I think it would be a good idea to get one of these players that do not start automatically.

4. My pet hate – people who do stretching exercises on plane aisles. My ex-wife used to do that and it embarrassed the boxers off me (probably why I’m still traumatised). I agree that we did a lot of those 10 and 11 hour trips to Florida, LA and Texas, but come on, grunting down the aisle after 1 hour of flight time? I feel there are places such as in front of the emergency doors where one could surreptitiously stretch, anything other than that appears to me to be an attitude of ‘notice me’, which doesn’t say much for one’s self-esteem.

The weave/braid thing I get. But I tend to view it as a positive… a pre-warning from a distance that I shouldn’t get any closer… so no hugs or kisses from me

lol@ that you get irate about the music thing… some people want to share other aspects of their personalities… I am feeling carl thomas’ emotional on lighty’s blog. I suggest that if you don’t like it when it starts automatically, just hit stop…it is that simple. It takes less time to press stop than it has for you to write the segment about it…but hey it is your blog so feel free…but it is also theirs to do as they wish

Long post thing… I’ve committed that crime at least twice… maybe it should have only been once… that post I would not have shortened for personal reasons (yep I also agree about the font 8 thing… doing that is cruel…I’ve been told that the best font to read/print is arial font 11…go figure)

Stretching on aisle… as a pet hate is funny one… i guess it irks you because you associate with your ex-wife. One can tell the ‘look at me crew’ from a mile because they aren’t stretching correctly. I’m adamant that for long flights it is a good thing to stretch because of the blood clot scare but most of the recommended stretches can be done seated. The others can be done as one heads to or queues for the lav…

as for the long posts....hmm shubby...cough cough...but then at least her stories are sweet enough to make u want to finish it...

Sorry I just had to add, I saw a man in is late 50s (or early 60s) stretching on my flight from London to Lagos last Christmas… the guy was basically gyrating (with a smile and wink o!)… methinks it was his effort to show try and off his 'aging and probably never had it' prowess… I just thought ‘how sad’, turned my head and closed my eyes to catch some well derserved zzzzz

lol...shubby I hadn't even read the post then...hahahhahahah

My dad does the stretching on d plane thing; he is growing old, so its allowed.

When posts are long, at least format them nicely and in segments, so peeps who can't read the whole thing can read the intro or smtn.

Abbie said...

No o, Descr?be and Abbie, two toatally different people o. Men! When will you guys learn.

Oh and you are simple lol, everytime you've scratched your head, did it mean you have dandruff?? I'm not talking excessive scratching, more of the absentminded kind.

I hate long rambling posts as well I don't read them without a disclaimer. The disclaimer shows courtesy. I'm done now commenting cos I have a tendency to talk too darn much for my own good.
Ok, bye now.

* afro - when did you start settling for 2nd? we have to up your vitamins

i shall be settling on shubby's page anytime i need to increase my crankiness level

* shubby - perhaps that was my ex you saw metamorphed into an annoying man

* oluwadee - its ok if its not an hour into the flight, i think. with my lovely ex, some people would still be eating their dinner or whatever. ugh!!

* abbie - trying to 'learn'. i'm too weak to laugh, you mean to say you see that thunderous head-slapping the same as an abscent-minded head-scratching?

* Ha ha ha...women who VIOLENTLY pat their scalps...lollllll. I don't like that too. But think about it, isn't it better than itching their scalp until it gets sore??? Lolll...anything that sounds like the cover of a coke bottle scratching a board turns me off...eeeeueeew. I feel u Jintus!

* Lol...are you saying that people who stretch on planes have attention deficit disorder? Oh, yeah...stop letting ur ex-wife traumatize ur future *wink*

1. i hate music on blogs too!
2. old people are allowed to stretch on the plane, we dont want them getting DVT(deep vein thrombosis) from the plane, do we?
3. long posts without dividing them into paragraphs irk me!

4. for the master of them all: women patting their hair.

this is mostly done by women who wear weaves, hence the reason why u only see africans/african american women doing it.
hairdressers actually tell you to pat not scratch.
you need to understand the science behind weaves to understand why they itch in the first place.
it doesnt always mean the wearer has dandruff.

5. I'm tired of typing.

Someone is/was in a bad mood???

Ha-ha...music on blogs. My player is no longer auto and I find that works better for everyone.

The patting...I was once guilty o. I did a weave and the hairdresser used synthetic hair to cornrow b4 adding the human hair extensions. I knew from experience that I was allergic to synthetic hair and I'd told her. I didn't realise what she'd done until I got home and my scalp itched like hell!

I couldn't stop patting o....actually it was more like my hand was a hammer. I banged on my head at a blow a second. GBA! GBA! GBA! I had to remove the hair that same day. Since then I've been off weaves and that bl**dy hairdresser.

the head patting bit i get, totally embarassing, i'm so concious of it that i almost never try to cool an itch anywhere near my hair in public, incase some poor dude becomes traumatised with the sight of a 'wannabe posh lady' giving her head such a spanking.

long post...sometimes are worth the read.

na wa o bros Jinta, u too dey "irritate" sef! and people call me irritable?! lol

head scratching/banging/hitting isnt cool, but SOMETIMES it cant be helped. i never wear any hair-do long enough to scratch sef. i particularly dislike when i see hair pins stuck in weaves for "scratchability".

i haven't experienced musical blogs in a while, thankfully.

i agree with u on really long, small prints, no paragraph posts.

I hate music on blogs, also, which is why I no longer have any on my blog. It gets annoying trying to find the darn music player thingy just to lower the volume before you even proceed to read the post! LOL

I agree with you on extra long posts.

hahahahahahahahahaha the patting of scalp/weave/worrever is not done by african ladies only oh. Carribean ladies are just like dat too, and yea i'm guilty of this. and no i dnt go about patting my head, its done in d comfort of my hse and in certain cases, it has nothing to do with dandruff in most cases... for some weird reason, newly done weaves tend to itch, and of course the longer u wear the shege, d more e go dey itch. dats y most ppl stay away from weaves... but sum of us cnt help it.

The music thingy, lol i stopped it ages ago, thanks for openeing my ass and the stretching exercise, lol i hate dat too... and i think the folks dat do it are either old or over weight..lol. Just an observation!

You cant blame us for whacking our heads in this part of the world. Number one cause of hair itch is heat/sweat/wetness on the scalp and you know say PHCN no dey give us light for this side. We can't be making new hairdos everyday now, can we?

Ditto on the music on blog thingy.
I have to mute my speakers ever so often.
Also on long posts. However, I've noticed that some of them are really nice, so I don't give up until I read the first couple paragraph.

laspapi said...

ehrrr... jinta, if people place long posts on their blogs, na dem get am. If you cant read 'em, skip 'em. It's like saying people wear clothes to please others, often times it's for the wearer's pleasure. My blog acts as an archive o. Basic use.

I dont know any 'blog song' I've heard from start to finish before. I mute the thing.

Head-slapping. ALL women of African extraction do that. Hair becomes a nest when stuff is sewn, attached, glued to it.

And by gad...you were feeling irritable.

Jinta said...

* tobenna - i read the 1st couple of paragraphs too, well, i try, if i havent noticed that the thing will take me an hour to read. lol

* 'papi - so says the long-posting whisperer.

i agree with the 'hair becomes a nest...' metaphor. perhaps we should look for a volunteer so we can determine what manner of undiscovered organisms exist in them

So I might have just irritated you because sort of I read your whole blog as I would a newspaper, though here I am leaving a comment.

Hair patting- hehe funny description. Somewomen don't know they have weave allergies. At least that's the explanation I got on inquiry.

On stretching- ur ex just rubs you the wrong way and possibly so before she was ex, cus you can't dissociate your irritation with innocent stetching. Were you flying economy?-cramped spaces make it hard not to stretch. Surreptitiously or otherwise. How does one stretch without being seen though or in an unobivious way on a plane? Post 911 anything moving is fair game for the stare down.

Long posts- do you view long comments the same way? I thought email and texts were for brevity.

Music- I concur.

All in all I had a good laugh at this one.
