Then, and now

1. Then, I used to sport an afro and it was a running battle with my father not to have it trimmed. Now I cut my hair very low every week, stopping just short of completely shaving my head

2. Then, I loved cars and as a teenager when my father sent me on an errand with the car I would look to drive through the most congested streets I could find in Lagos. Now I wish I could afford a driver although my love of driving has not diminished

3. Then, we ate any strange food combinations as student teens – moin pie (bread with moin-moin [bean cakes]); banana pie (bread with bananas); ice cream sandwich (need I tell you the ingredients?); bread with sugar cubes; bread with groundnuts; bananas with groundnuts. Now I just try to exercise portion control

4. Then, I drove my car left hand twisted forward over the steering wheel in a proud display of my wedding band. Now I drive left hand twisted forward over the steering wheel in a proud display of an empty hand

5. Then (last June), I looked at my fish live in the tank before I authorised its slaughter (its called ‘kill-and-go’ or ‘shoot-to-kill’ or ‘point-and-kill’ or something).

Now my gut hasn’t gone down after forgetting my portion control policy in devouring the catfish washed down with Star Lager

I was about to make an important well thought out, considered and intelligent contibution to this post....then I came across Naijalines comment about eating snails.....and my heart skipped a beat, well actually three beats...now all i can focus on are snails, does she eat them raw, fried , boiled or grilled? Does she eat the ones with shells or just the slugs? is it becaus she can not afford goat meat or chicken, or is it some form of twisted leisue activity like having sex in a phonebooth? (this is not a confession lol. is she talking about the same snails im talking about or is it a different breed or variety or maybe just maybe shes talking bout some vegetable...? sorry Jinta my meaningful comment jus evaporated the moment naijalines mentioned snails.

Now girl, this is beyond the pale! I don't do bitchy or nasty.

Quite frankly, I found your comment (as quoted above) offensive. Do me a favour and stop picking on my comments. This is the second time you've done it in one day. Blogville is big enough for you to find a willing target Or perhaps not...You see in blogville, we like nice warm people! Gracias!!!

But my sensible brain...the one I use for analysing risk tells me she really meant snails in an erotic way...maybe you touched on a fantasy??

Ha-ha Afrobabe, only you would find that comment erotic:) But then again...hmmm.

It's just that Miss DM appears to like my name just a little bit...Maybe it's a bit too claustrophobic for me...Two times in 24 hours she's focused her attention on me. I'm not used to so much attention. LOL.

* naijalines - i think ms def was just poking fun. it must have sat wrong with you, never mind

* 'sewa - so how come you didn't show it? i'm petulant

* isha - lol. sometimes meat repulses me when i remember it came from live animals, however, give me a couple of days and i'm back being a carnivore

* florida - no fear of being inundated with applications. my attitude to romance stinks

* afro - your sensible brain sees snails as erotic? how does the non-sensible part see it?? only you, afro

thanks for diffusing the tension

@ Naijalines, you give me too much credit, I do not have the heart nor desire to be ofensive or practice cyberbullying. My apologies if i offended, but you misconstrued what I was saying, it was not a personal dig at yourself, it was an attempt at sexual innuendo that obviously backfired.....will think more carefully before i write as i def dont want to offend nobody. ps dont take my comments seriously coz neither do I.

Jarrai, what else can one do in a phone booth besides make a loooooooong distance call lol

@ Ms DEFINITELY MAYBE
No offence taken babe. I just thank Afrobabe for letting me see there was another possible interpretation to your comment. Or there could have been beef o, lol.

Look I don't really take myself that seriously. I have a weird sense of humour like you and people don't often get it (check out my latest post if you haven't already. I hope you are not offended by it and can see the tongue in cheek satirical aspects of it.)

In my current post, I'm actually using our encounter to reflect on another incident that happened a while ago on another blog. So I've learnt a few lessons from that incident and this one.

Some of the points I make in the post do not necessarily relate to our little incident. My intention for doing the post is to make other bloggers aware that we need to chill out and not take offence at other people's comments. Rather we should try to communicate if we are upset about it.

They often say 'like conflicts with like'. So maybe we rubbed against each other, albeit only temporarily. No pun intended:) Hopefully this 'saga' would help us appreciate each other more. BTW, I like your blog.

@ JINTA
Hey bro, just to let you know...The points I make in my current post about bloggers taking responsibility for material on their blog, ... are not actully aimed at you. You mediated well.

My observations in the post concern another blog where I was personally attacked in a comment. There were no other possible interpretations for the blogger's comment as it involved some name calling. I felt the blogger should have either asked the commentor to adjust their comment or remove the comment.

Anyway, after all is said and done, blogville is a great place to be. Long live blogville!

Sorry for the long comment but I thought it important to clarify some issues. So long!

@miss def maybe...phone booths are very multipurpose these days you can call some one and charge them reverse (me fav). * emeralda - lmao. you threw up and still went back to moin pie?

* buttercup - 'fraid so

* miss def - i was begining to fall head over heels for your 'looooong distance calls' then you went and called be jarrai

a scenario: we fall in love. we're making love. you call me jarrai rather than jinta. my ego deflates (pun intended)

* Funms - it WAS delicious, funms

* naijalines - i shall go read up on your site

* jarrai - have you been getting massage phone numbers off phone booths? lol. i can feel the mischief in your comment
